For all the IRS Vehicle owners out there, here's a new product that has been a long time coming for the 8.8 with IRS -- the Control Freak IRS rear Stud Girdle. As anyone who has an IRS equipped vehicle (non Cobra), you know that the way the 8.8" is setup in an IRS application allows for a torsional force to be put on the rear upon launch at the strip or hard cornering. This application makes the OEM rear cover a structural part of the rear and as such, it gets twisted under load, causing it to twist and break -- often in a catastrophic fashion. This won't happen with the Control Freak IRS girdle as the cover itself has a flange that is way thicker than the OEM and also has mounting points on it that dwarf the OEM setup, to say the very least.
It also features a larger capacity & fill and drain plugs that can also be adapted for a rear fluid cooler.
Of course, what's a rear axle girdle without bearing cap preload feet? When you do launch the car at the track, the bearing caps tend to get egg shaped as there is no support behind them. When you add this girdle, you get adjustable feet that apply a preload to the bearing caps, preventing them from deforming under load.
It's an all around great piece! Our regular retail on it is $329.00 but we're running a group purchase special on it for $299.00 but it's only until the end of the month! See it on our site
